16 Seminarians Ordained as Deacons at St. Peter’s Basilica

Each year, seminarians from the Pontifical North American College in Rome take a significant step toward the priesthood through ordination to the transitional diaconate. This year, beneath the magnificent mosaics of St. Peter’s Basilica, 16 American men publicly dedicated their lives to serving Christ and His Church.

The ceremony drew more than 1,500 family members and friends who traveled from across the United States to witness these seminarians respond with a profound “yes” to God’s call.

Presiding at the ordination, Bishop Joseph G. Hanefeldt of the Diocese of Grand Island, Nebraska, reminded the men that they are called to be living sacramental signs of Christ, who came “not to be served but to serve.”

This sacred moment marks not only a milestone in their journey toward the priesthood but also a visible sign of hope and renewal for the Church.
